Garrett debated for four years at Brentwood High School, during which he qualified to the TOC and Nationals two times each and amassed 7 bids to the Tournament of Champions. He reached late rounds at tournaments such as the UK season opener, the Barkley forum for high schools, and NSDA Nationals. He served as a coach of his middle school team and helped teams to qualify to TOC and win the state championship. He has the experience with both substance and theory debate, and limited experience debating against Ks.
